A man described as a notorious kidnapping gang leader has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Army while he was attempting to escape from his hideout in Taraba State.
The kidnapping kingpin, whose name was given as Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, was arrested by troops of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), during what the army described as ‘a clearance operation.’
He was said to have been arrested on November 23 as he attempted to escape from his hideout at Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
He was also believed to be a close associate of Umar Musa, another notorious kidnapping mastermind arrested by the troops on November 22.
According to the Nigerian Army in a statement: “Preliminary investigations have established strong links between the two suspects and a wider criminal syndicate responsible for multiple kidnappings, violent attacks and coordinated criminal activities across the region.”
He was said to be giving the troops more useful information about his kidnapping activities.
