The Catholic Diocese of Enugu on Monday, June 29, warned those who planned to organise “historic endorsement rally” aimed at endorsing President Bola Tinubu and the Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah, to desist from it as the diocese will not allow its cathedral to be used for such.
There have been reports that some individuals are planning to organise the historic endorsement rally and adoption ceremony for Tinubu and Mbah scheduled for Friday, July 3, at the Jubilee Hall of the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu.
The planned ceremony has generated controversies among the christiandom, especially the Catholic faithful, as some of them protested the development and informed authorities of the diocese.
Apparently following the furore generated, the diocese, in a letter signed by Reverend Father Anthony Aneke, the Director of Communication of the diocese, said it will not allow its facility to be used for such.
The letter reads: “The Catholic Diocese of Enugu clarifies a media announcement currently circulating regarding a ‘Historic Endorsement Rally And Adoption Ceremony’ in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Barr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, scheduled to hold on Friday, 3rd July 2026, at Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu.
Since the event is intended to serve as a political endorsement gathering, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu wishes to state that it does not permit the use of its churches, parish halls, or other ecclesiastical facilities for partisan political rallies, endorsements or similar activities.
“Consequently, the use of Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, for the said political event does not reflect the policy or position of the Diocese and therefore will not hold at the said venue.
“The Diocese regrets any misunderstanding that the announcement may have created.”
