A prominent member of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) in Zamfara State, Hashimu Abdullahi Matseri, has been abducted while travelling on a highway in the state.
The lawyer was said to have been abducted along the Anka-Zuru highway around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday while returning from a function he attended
It was gathered that the man drove into the roadblock mounted by the abductors and he was immediately surrounded after he stopped and the marauders took him away.
A source who was in the know of the abduction told Impact Nigeria News Online on Monday afternoon that his family members received the news of the abduction after the kidnappers called them with his phone number, demanding an undisclosed sum, said to be ‘huge’, as ransom.
The source added that the family and his entire community had been thrown into confusion regarding the kidnap of the man who was described as friendly and generous.
It could not be ascertained as of the time of this report if the family had informed the security agencies over the development.
In another sad development, on Sunday night, bandits carried out coordinated attacks at some communities in Katsina State.
It was gathered that in Badole village, Ruwan Sanyi Ward, Malumfashi Local Government Area, one person was killed and two others injured during the attack.
Around 11:00 p.m., bandits also stormed Tudun Ali area, Dandume Local Government Area of the state, where they attacked a resident with machetes before abducting several women. The women were later released at dawn after reportedly being sexually assaulted.
The Northern part of the country, especially the North-West, has been under the grips of bandits and kidnappers who unleash mayhem on residents of various communities, killing some and abducting others.
While the bandits and terrorists are having field days, the various state governments and security agencies seem to be looking the other way, leaving the residents at the mercy of the marauders.
