Four pump-action guns as well as nine live and three expended cartridges were recovered by men of the Edo State Police Command during the arrest of four cultists belonging to the Eiye Confraternity group.
The command announced the arrest of the cultists in a statement on Wednesday, March 25, saying they were arrested around 2:00 a.m. at their hideout in Uromi on Tuesday, March 24, in what it described as “a well coordinated operation.”
It gave their names as Solomon Oboigbe aged 27 years; Fidelis Omale, aged 26 years; Julius Oseyomon, aged 64 years and Abraham Erumosele, aged 54 years.
The command added that preliminary investigation indicated that the men are members of the Eiye Confraternity and that the recovered pump-action guns and cartridges were obtained through illegal means.
They were said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and after the matter was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID for more investigation, they were arraigned before court for prosecution and they had been remanded in prison custody.
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various criminal groups including cultists, armed robbers, kidnappers, ritual killers, among others, terrorising residents in some parts of the state.
Some of those arrested had been charged to courts upon the conclusion of the investigation into their nefarious activities.
