Many parts of the city of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Thursday, January 8, witnessed the first rainfall in 2026.
The rainfall, which began around 8:30 p.m., was heralded by windstorm and pockets of thunderstorm. The torrential rainfall lasted for about 20 minutes.
Many residents of the city expressed relief regarding the rain as the heat in various parts of the city had been unbearable for the past one month, as they said the breeze that followed the rainfall was a soothing balm for them.
Some residents who were on their way home when the rain started had to find shelter at various bus stops and the streets were full of people looking for commercial vehicles after the rain stopped.
As of the time of writing this report, it was still drizzling in some areas of the city while the thunderstorm was still very active.
