The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the alleged demolition of a building reportedly owned by the younger brother of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Obi had claimed that unknown individuals demolished his brother’s Ikeja property, acting on a vague court order that neither mentioned the property nor authorised any demolition.
In a statement on Thursday, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, called Obi’s claim “unverified and misleading,” stressing that no state agency, including the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), was involved.
Special Adviser on eGIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, also confirmed LASBCA’s non-involvement. Omotoso criticised Obi for publicising the allegation without verification, but assured that a full investigation, led by the Permanent Secretary of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, had been ordered.
