Some students in the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho, Oyo State, are currently at daggers drawn with the authorities of the university over plan to move the departments to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.
The departments are currently under the College of Health Sciences and the grouse of the students is that after they were given admission to study “medical courses,” the authorities are now planning to move them to “science courses.”
The students said they believed the move by the university is a downgrade to them as they had been treated as medical students from the beginning while the current 100 level and 200 level direct entry students paid over N600,000 as fees which is more than the fees for Pure and Applied Sciences faculty.
According to an Internal Memo issued by the Secretary of the university Senate, the decision to move Anatomy and Physiology to Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences was reached during the meeting held on January 21, 2026, based on “requests.”
The memo added that non-medical staff members in the departments should equally move to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences “for ease of career progression.”
Part of the memo reads: “Consequent upon the approval of Senate, I write to inform you that the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology have been moved to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences. Your support and cooperation in ensuring a smooth resolution of the matter is highly appreciated.”
The students of the departments have however cried foul over the decision of the university as they held a protest on Monday, February 16, to denounce the decision.
