The Kano State Police Command has arrested three hoodlums said to be among the masterminds behind the murder of a housewife, Fatima Abubakar and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.
In fact, one of those arrested, who was described as the leader of the hoodlums, told the police that he is a nephew of the murdered housewife. This also implies that all the murdered six children of the woman were his cousins.
It will be recalled that the hoodlums invaded the home of the woman on Saturday, January 17, attacked and killed her and her children.
The names of those arrested were given as Umar Auwalu, aged 23 years; Isyaku Yakubu, aged 40 years and Yakubu Abdulaziz, aged 21 years old.
The hoodlums were arrested during what the police described as “a sting operation” that lasted between 10pm on January 17 and 4:00 a.m. on January 18.
The leader of the hoodlums, Umar Auwalu, said to be a nephew to the deceased housewife, confessed to the crime and also admitted that the same hoodlums had carried out a series of killings and attacks in the recent past, including the killing and burning of two housewives at Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano.
According to the state police command in a statement on Sunday, January 18, items recovered from them included four clothes with blood stains, the deceased’s two mobile phones, a cutlass, a club and some amount of money stolen at the scene, among others.
The arrested men were said to have given more useful information to the police operatives while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for more investigation.
They are also expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
