A man who was said to have delivered a six-year-old virgin girl to a native doctor for ritual purposes has told men of the Anambra State Police Command that he was compensated with the sum of N1 million for his efforts.
The man, Friday Akonobi, aged 28 years, was arrested on Saturday, January 17, by the operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad while acting on credible information.
The state police command disclosed in a statement on Sunday, January 18, that the arrest was in connection with the abduction and murder of the girl, in a case linked to an Enugu-based native doctor, Obieze Ezeani, popularly known as “Edey Play.”
It was gathered that the man abducted the girl from Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and took her to the native doctor who reportedly requested for virgin girls.
During interrogation, the man was said to have confessed carrying out the abduction in collaboration with four other currently at large.
He also stated that the girl was taken by him to the native doctor in Enugu, adding that he and his accomplices acted as agents for the native doctor as he paid them the sum of N1 million each for any virgin girl brought to him. He further stated that the girl was murdered and used for rituals.
“The suspect added that the said native doctor has since been arrested by operatives of the Enugu State Police Command, a development that has generated public attention following the circulation of related videos on social media,” the command stated.
The man was said to have given more useful information to the operatives while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.
