Akure North, Ondo State – Troops of the Nigerian Army successfully repelled an attack by suspected terrorists near the Ogbeese Forest and Owo axis in Akure North Local Government Area on May 4, authorities confirmed. The operation led to the recovery of a firearm and other items, though it came at the cost of one soldier’s life.
According to sources cited by counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 7:30 pm when military personnel received a distress call regarding the movement of suspected terrorists in the area. The soldiers promptly mobilized and engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to flee.
During subsequent searches of the vicinity, troops recovered a Dane gun and a mobile phone believed to belong to the suspects. One soldier was killed in the confrontation, while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Owo.
Military authorities have assured residents of intensified patrols and ongoing security operations to prevent further infiltration by criminals or terrorists. The troops’ presence aims to maintain dominance and safety in the area, officials stated.
