A Nigerian who was arrested by the police in Libya for drug trafficking has disclosed that he used to make money by selling hard drugs to migrant workers in the country.
The Nigerian, described as “an undocumented migrant,” was arrested on Tuesday, December 9, by the police in Brak, a town in the Fezzan region in southwestern Libya.
He was said to have been found in possession of hallucinogenic pills known as Lyrica as well as Tramadol at the point of his arrest following intelligence reports gathered by the police.
“During police interrogation, he admitted to selling the drugs to migrant worker communities in Brak area. The case was referred to public prosecution for legal action,” the Brak Police wrote.
Many Nigerians have been arrested and currently in detention in the North African country over their criminal activities including drug trafficking, armed robbery, burglary, among others.
Some of the Nigerians resorted to criminal activities following their inability to get into Europe through the Mediterranean Sea after embarking on dangerous journey from Nigeria through the desert to Libya.
This year alone, over 5,000 Nigerians have been deported from Libya after they were involved in various criminal activities.
