The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has condemned the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it described as an incessant stream of insults directed at President Bola Tinubu following his recent meeting with Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Osogbo, PDP Chairman Sunday Bisi said the APC’s reaction to Adeleke’s visit to President Tinubu in Lagos was “unbecoming and disgraceful,” accusing the opposition party of failing to grasp basic principles of governance and democratic engagement.
“The vitriolic outbursts from APC stalwarts since President Tinubu welcomed Governor Adeleke at his Lagos residence show a total disregard for decorum and an alarming ignorance of democratic principles,” the statement read. “Such conduct is beneath the proud Yoruba tradition of mutual respect and civility.”
Bisi reaffirmed that Governor Adeleke will continue to engage constructively with all relevant authorities, including the President, to advance development in Osun State. He said it was not the first time Osun APC elements had shown disrespect to high-ranking officials, citing past visits by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Rep. Ado Doguwa, and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, who were also subjected to verbal attacks for acknowledging Adeleke’s governance efforts.
Drawing historical parallels, Bisi recalled that former Governor Bisi Akande once hosted then-President Olusegun Obasanjo for three days before the 2003 elections, prioritizing development over party differences. “That’s how real governance works,” he said.
The PDP urged the APC to abandon “petty politics” and focus on constructive dialogue. This comes after APC chieftain Timothy Owoeye insisted Governor Adeleke was not welcomed in the party and declared the APC governorship ticket not for sale to the Adeleke family.
