The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Sunday, May 10, announced the appointment of the proprietor of BOVAS Oil and Gas, Mrs Victoria Samson, as the Chancellor of the Osun State University, Osogbo.
Her appointment followed the expiration of the tenure of the current Chancellor, another oil magnate, Mrs Folorunso Alakija, who spent 10 years as the Chancellor, having been appointed in 2016.
According to a statement by the spokesman of the governor, Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday, Mrs Samson, popularly known as Mama BOVAS, is an indigene of Iree in Boripe Local Government Area of the state and was born on December 5, 1949.
“Under her management and that of her husband, the BOVAS oil and Gas Company has achieved great milestones by growing the retail arm of the business from one petroleum products service station to over 200 stations and over 2000 fully employed Nigerians as at December 31, 2025,” the statement added.
The statement added that Governor Adeleke picked her for the position because she manages her business with integrity, accountability and patriotism, noting that the state government recognises her decency and integrity in doing business in a society where people oftentimes attempt to put logic head down.
“We recognise with appreciation, your distinct effort to make life easy for the consumers of petroleum products. We celebrate you and use you to represent a symbol of decency, honesty, integrity and humanity in our society,” the statement added.
