The Bauchi State Police Command on Wednesday, June 3, gave details of how an 18-year-old teenager lured another 17-year-old to a river at a community in the state and drowned him in the process.
The command gave the details in a statement, saying the tragic incident occurred on May 24.
According to the command, the teenager, Nura Aisanu, lured the victim, Abdullahi Muhammad, to the river in Kari Village, Darazo Local Government Area of the state and drowned him over an undisclosed reason.
Following the incident and as a result of the inability of Muhammad’s family to find him, a report was lodged at the Darazo Divisional Headquarters and following the receipt of the report, police operatives commenced investigation, leading to the arrest of the teenager.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the teenager lured the deceased to the river and drowned him. Operatives from Darazo Division promptly responded to the scene, arrested the suspect, and commenced preliminary investigation. The body of the deceased is yet to be recovered, and search efforts are ongoing,” the statement disclosed.
The teenager was said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for discreet and thorough investigation.
“The Commissioner of Police has directed a professional and diligent investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident. He assures the public that justice will be served in accordance with the law, and anyone found culpable will face prosecution,” the statement added.
