The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 11 Ghanaians said to have been held hostage in Sagamu area of the state after being lured to Nigeria with promises of Canadian and Spanish visas.
Police operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping unit of the command, acting on actionable intelligence received on October 19, mobilised to the identified hideout and rescued the Ghanaians, comprising seven males and four females.
They were said to have been found in various stages of inhumane conditions and some of them had no money on them.
Preliminary investigations carried out by the operatives indicated that the victims were deceived by a fellow Ghanaian who promised to facilitate their overseas travel.
Each of the rescued Ghanaians was said to have paid 40,000 Cedis before they were brought to Nigeria and reportedly held against their will.
The rescued victims are currently receiving appropriate care and support and they are expected to be returned to their country as soon as possible while detectives intensify efforts to track down and apprehend all persons connected with the network that brought them to Nigeria.
