Six members of a syndicate that used to produce and sell adulterated engine oil and diesel in the Lekki area of Lagos State have been arrested by men of the state police command.
While two of them were said to be the suppliers, the other four were said to be the producers of the adulterated products which they popularly called “Rice and Beans.”
The state police command announced the arrest on Friday, November 28, and gave their names as Ichapi Moses, Samson Adike (suppliers), Abubakar Rilwan, Abubakar Abdullahi, Adamu Ibrahim Jora and Michael John (producers).
They were said to have specialised in adulterating the engine oil and diesel, selling them to the unsuspecting motorists in Eti-Osa, Lekki area of the state and they were arrested on Thursday afternoon.
They were said to have given more useful information to the police operatives and, according to the command, they were among 26 persons arrested in the area on Thursday by the men of the command in collaboration with the operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, popularly known as KAI.
Among others that were arrested were some men who specialised in producing fake naira notes while fake N951,300 were recovered from them.
They are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation into their nefarious activities.
The state police command has been grappling with the activities of various criminal groups, including those who specialised in adulterating products and those who produce fake currency notes.
