Former Tottenham Hotspur striker, Dimitar Berbatov, has urged the Spurs manager, Jose Mourinho, to prioritise winning a trophy for Tottenham Hotspur this season over finishing in the top four.
He said Spurs should put the focus on winning the Carabao Cup this season against the same opponents later this season.
“At the moment I think Spurs need a trophy and it is a great opportunity this season to do that with them in the final of the League Cup,” the Spurs striker said.
“They have a big obstacle in their way, in Manchester City, but it’s a final and in a final you never know. Last time they won a trophy, I played and scored, Chelsea were the big favourites to win that one but we surprised everybody.
“So they have a chance and if they win it I think it will be a great boost for the moral of the whole team and Jose will prove once again that wherever he goes the trophies follow, it’s exactly what they need right now.
“Their number one priority should be winning the League Cup because it’s a trophy and for so long they have needed one. I think they also have enough quality to challenge for the top four, so that it should also be up there too.”
