Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service battled a massive inferno at the Jabi Lake Mall in Abuja for six hours on Thursday, October 30, as they claimed they claimed they salvage goods worth approximately ₦94 billion and prevented what could have been the total loss of the multi-billion-naira establishment.
The inferno affected mostly the Adidas Stores section of the mall, destroying valuables.
The inferno which cause was yet to be determined as at the time of this report, and which lasted six hours before it was contained, was brought under control through the combined efforts of FFS 75, FFS 88, and FFS 164 and support from the Julius Berger Fire Service.
It was gathered that when the firefighters arrived the scene, the inferno was confined to the affected section of the mall, averting its spread to adjoining areas and their swift action helped salvage goods worth approximately ₦94 billion from an estimated ₦100 billion pre-incident stock.
Also confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, said officers were deployed to safeguard the area and prevent any acts of looting.
“We got a distress call around 3:40 a.m. and immediately sent our personnel to secure the premises and maintain public order,” Adeh explained.
