Gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday, April 21, stormed a vicarage of an Anglican church in Yola, Adamawa State and killed the Vicar in charge.

A vicarage is the residence of the vicar in charge of a church and it is mostly built within the church premises.

The gunmen, said to be six, killed Reverend Emmanuel Ezeokwe who is the Vicar of St Mary Anglican Church, Zinai, in the Diocese of Yola.

The incident was announced by Venerable Andrew Izuakor, the Administrative Officer to the Bishop of Yola Diocese, Right Reverend Markus Ibrahim.

He said that the gunmen, who stormed the Zinai community in Song Local Government Area of the state, came to the vicarage and shot the priest at close range, causing him to die on the spot.

“We ask for prayers for the immediate family, Zinai Church, the Archdeaconry and the Diocese of Yola at this tragic moment,” the Administrator said.

It could however not be ascertained if the gunmen who invaded the community were bandits, terrorists or armed robbers.
